CHAMBA'S NEW DISTRICT COUNCIL MEMBERS TAKE OATH, DEPUTY COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND DRUG-FREE SOCIETY

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal administered the oath to all 18 newly elected District Council members in Chamba, emphasizing transparent development, responsible use of public funds, support for anti-drug initiatives, and cooperation in census activities. The ceremony highlighted both experienced leaders and young first-time representatives shaping the district's future governance.

 

CHAMBA: In a significant step for local governance, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal administered the oath of office to all newly elected District Council members of Chamba, urging them to uphold constitutional values, ensure transparent development, and actively support efforts to build a drug-free society.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the auditorium of the Savings Hall in Chamba, where newly elected representatives from all 18 District Council wards of the district participated and formally took the oath of allegiance to the Constitution.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal congratulated all newly elected members and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure. He expressed confidence that the representatives would work with honesty and dedication in their respective areas and fulfill the expectations of the people.

He emphasized that the primary responsibility of elected representatives is to ensure the effective implementation of development projects while guaranteeing the proper and transparent utilization of public funds. He further stated that all representatives must actively cooperate with government and administration initiatives aimed at combating drug abuse in their respective regions. According to him, such collective efforts are essential for achieving the vision of a healthy, empowered, and drug-free society alongside sustained development.

The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the newly elected representatives to extend full cooperation in census-related activities and contribute to the successful execution of the exercise across the district.

During the event, several senior and experienced District Council members, along with first-time elected young representatives, shared their views. They discussed development priorities in their respective constituencies and outlined the challenges they expect to face during their tenure while presenting their perspectives on future governance and public service.

Notably, among the 18 newly elected District Council members in Chamba district, 11 are men and seven are women. Sunil Dutt Sharma, a 25-year-old member representing the Gahra ward of Bharmour Development Block, is the youngest male District Council member. Among women representatives, Rajni Devi, aged 28, from the Chanju ward of Tissa Development Block, and Divya Jyoti Verma from the Kathet ward of Bhattiyat Development Block are the youngest female District Council members.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Leela Devi, a 75-year-old member representing the Bharmour ward of Bharmour Development Block, is the oldest District Council member in the district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra, District Panchayat Officer Mahesh Thakur, along with other officers and staff members, were also present on the occasion.

The ceremony marked the formal beginning of a new chapter in grassroots governance in Chamba, with elected representatives assuming responsibility for development, public welfare, administrative cooperation, and community leadership across the district.
